Today, our Lean Manufacturing Operatives (LMO) took part in a timed-production task on our simulated manufacturing line.
As part of the apprenticeship standard, a Lean Manufacturing Operative is be expected to carry out their work safely and meet the exact quality standards demanded in a fast paced and efficient processing environment, as well as developing into a multi-skilled operator through process ownership.
Our specialist simulated production line based at our state-of-the-art Spire Campus allows apprentices to apply LEAN principles and problem-solving techniques. The apprentices also work as a team to collect data and carry out audits in the work area. An important part of the task is ensuring Kaizen principles are upheld in the work area – an important objective for our employer partner Nissan.
Their tutor, Billy Hedgley, explained more about the task.
“The LMO apprentices have demonstrated some excellent work over the past few weeks in preparation for the task they completed today. We are very impressed by the progress they have made since they started with us. Students are tasked with completing jobs around the production line, ensuring they’re completed to a high quality and in a timely fashion. Throughout an afternoon, they complete the tasks again and again to try and better their previous time. Nissan require work around the plant to be completed quickly, safely and to the best quality and that is what we aim to teach the students when they’re with us.”
NA College have been a trailblazer for this apprenticeship in partnership with Nissan. If you would like to learn more about our Lean Manufacturing Operative apprenticeship, contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0191 466 1188.
