Level 2 Certificate in Preparation for Working in the Engineering Manufacturing Industry

Programme Overview
This is a 2-week programme that will equip participants with manufacturing knowledge, hand skills to prepare them for a practical test which is the first stage of the interview process to begin work in the manufacturing industry with a leading manufacturing company. Completing sessions at our state of the art facility in Washington, participants will have the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge gained in the classroom by utilising our production workshop that has been designed to meet the needs of a leading manufacturing employer.
This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers who are keen to bring new entrants, who have little or no previous experience of a manufacturing environment, into their workforce. It is based on employers’ expectations of what a prospective employee should know prior to entering their workplace.
This qualification will cover the knowledge and skills required to be able to apply for a position within a modern engineering manu- facturing environment including:
- Understanding the engineering manufacturing environment – Specific to high volume production
- Understanding the importance of sustainability within engineering manufacturing
- Demonstration of hand skills in an engineering manufacturing environment – Focusing on speed, dexterity, and quality
- Preparing for interviews – Giving a level of confidence and the ability to be clear and concise
- Solving work problems – To understand how manufacturing industries continuously develop
Participants will be required to complete the full programme and upon successful completion will be offered an agility test at a leading manufacturing company, once they pass the agility test, they will move on to the second stage consisting of line trial and interview.

10 days Mon-Thurs, 8am – 4pm Fri 8am – 12pm

Day 2 | Demonstrate hand skills in an engineering manufacturing environment and Hand Skills coached session (practical activity) |
Day 3 | Understanding the engineering and manufacturing environment and Workplace organisation, Hand Skills practice (practical activity) |
Day 4 | Understand importance of sustainability within engineering/manufacturing |
Day 5 | Further practical activity |
Day 6 | Work related problem solving, Kaizen and hand skills practice (practical activity) |
Day 7 | Work related problem solving, Kaizen 2 and hand skills practice (practical activity) |
Day 8 | Further practical activity |
Day 9 | Preparing a CV and hand skills practice (practical activity) |
Day 10 | Application preparation/preparing for an interview |
